R20 is an aggressive method of tattoo removal generally reserved for emergency situations. Due to the ablative nature of this procedure, the likelihood of blistering, scarring and pigmentation change is increased. This method includes up to 4 laser treatments in one session and can produce up to 60% ink dissipation.
R20 stands for Repeat/20 minutes. Traditional laser tattoo removal treatments require one pass of the laser over the area being treated. A white or cream colored “frosting” is produced as nitrogen and H20 are released from the skin when contact is made with the laser energy. The frosting takes about 20 minutes to subside and is reflective to the light waves from the laser, so the frosting must dissipate before another treatment will be effective. During R20, the treatment process is repeated 4 times in one sitting, with a 6-8 week waiting period before the next treatment can be performed. We typically see 40%-60% ink dissipation after one R20 session, but results may vary. This procedure should only be performed by an experienced technician.
