How does laser tattoo removal work?

Each tattoo ink pigment reflects a specific wavelength of light, which is absorbed by a precisely devised light amplification by stimulated admission of radiation (LASER) wavelength which, when contact is made, causes a photo acoustic shattering of the ink particles. The shattered pigment molecules are picked up by the lymphatic system and filtered through the lymphatic system. Though the Laser treatment can be completed in a matter of minutes, the body can take anywhere from 4 to 10 weeks to properly filter the ink particles.

Certain health conditions, medications, skin types, scarred tissue, location, response systems, pigment color and density can delay this process, which brings up the amount of treatments required to achieve removal.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Well, it doesn’t feel good! But, fortunately most of our clients say that it didn’t hurt as bad as they thought it would. The true answer to that questions depends on your pain tolerance and mental state. The feeling is similar to static electricity, with a slight stinging sensation afterward. To cut down on the “snapping” sensation, we utilize a cryo-cooling system to help numb the skin before and during the treatment, which can be a matter of seconds depending on the size and color. For more sensitive situations we do offer a topical numbing cream for a nominal charge.

What can I expect after laser tattoo removal?

Certain medications and medical conditions may be a contraindication, so be sure to have a list of these items for your appointment.

If you are sick or on antibiotics, you will want to wait until you are well and off of antibiotics for at least one week prior to your treatment.

Be sure to eat and hydrate before your treatment.

Absolutely no sun exposure to the treatment area before or during your treatment process.

If there is hair in the area you wish to have treated, be sure to shave prior to your appointment.

We love children and animals, but they are not permitted in the treatment room. Please be sure to have supervision for them in the waiting area.

How many treatments will laser tattoo removal take?

Due to the wide array of possible implications in each individual as mentioned above, it is difficult to generalize exactly how many treatments a tattoo will take to completely dissipate or fade enough for a cover-up.

Most single-color tattoos can take anywhere between 6-12 treatments if moderately pigmented. Fewer sessions would be required if there is a mild amount of ink saturation, and more if there are multiple colors or heavy ink saturation. During your consultation we will examine the piece you are wanting to work on and discuss implications specific to you and determine a reasonable estimate based on the overall factors.

How long do I have to wait between laser tattoo removal treatments?

As with other concerns involving laser tattoo removal, the time between treatments depends on an array of factors and can range between 4 weeks- 2 months. If you’ve chosen an Advanced Removal Method, then 8 weeks is required between treatments at a minimum.

Waiting longer between sessions does not necessarily prolong the process. The lymphatic system needs sufficient time to carry the shattered ink particles away from the targeted region. If we do a treatment before all of the shattered particles have been carried away, they will absorb the energy that is intended for the larger ink particles, causing you to pay for more treatments at the end of the day then necessary, and could lead to complications.

Patience is a virtue when removing a tattoo.

What are the side effects of laser tattoo removal?

Although rare, some side effects can occur. We strive to maintain the integrity of the skin and most of the time can, but it is not always possible to achieve complete removal without any evidence there was ever anything there. If there is any level of scarred tissue present from the trauma caused by the tattoo implantation process, it can make it more difficult to remove 100% of the ink particles, and the scarred tissue may be visible once the ink is removed from the tattoo. Additionally, hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation can occur when removing some colors or in some deeper pigmented skin types. In these cases, the area being treated may not match the surrounding skin perfectly once the ink is removed. In the event that this occurs, our Technicians may recommend microdermabrasion, microneedling or camouflage micropigmentation to achieve a more homogenous appearance.

I have had a tattoo removal nightmare! Can my tattoo still be removed?

Unfortunately, tattoo removal creams, at home devices, non-laser methods, predatory or untrained technicians and ridiculous Youtube videos are being marketed to take advantage of people desperate to remove a tattoo, looking to save a buck, or not patient enough to go through the laser tattoo removal process. If you’ve fallen victim to any of these schemes, don’t be ashamed or discouraged. We’ve seen everything from acid burns to dotted “non-laser” scars and red-hot knife burns (thank a Youtube at home tattoo removal video for that one). Fortunately, our advanced technicians can help you navigate your way through the nightmare and get you the results you deserve.

I just got a tattoo and I already regret it. Can you help me?

Don’t worry, it has happened to us, too. Fortunately, we have discovered an emergency procedure that can significantly decrease the amount of pigment that heals into your body art or permanent makeup tattoo. This procedure must be performed within the first 72 hours of receiving the tattoo, or before the skin begins to heal over. A proprietary solution is used to encapsulate the pigment molecules and push them up and out of the skin using osmosis.

You will be given specific aftercare instructions and an aftercare kit to assist in the healing and lightening process. If you are seeking complete removal or further lightening, there is a minimum of 10 weeks waiting period before laser removal can be performed.

Pricing starts at $129 and depends on the size of area to be treated.

I have a tattoo removal emergency, and it's after hours. What can I do?

If you have an after hours emergency, please call or text us at 719-632-4746 for availability. After hours pricing may apply.

My tattoo is very dark, or deeply embedded. Can I speed up the laser tattoo removal process?

Look, it’s not the ideal situation, but we understand the necessity for tattoo removal in a jiffy, or those difficult pieces that laser just won’t budge. Because we’ve been faced with people in desperate situations and difficult removals, we’ve had to come up with a solution. When traditional laser removal is not an option, we can turn to R20.

R20 is a series of 4 treatments in one session that can remove up to 60% of ink.

Due to the nature of this treatment, side effects such as scarring, permanent pigmentation changes, and infection can be more likely. Multiple sessions will still be required for full removal.

Laser Tattoo Removal Before and After

Information! We do non-laser tattoo removal, too!

When traditional laser removal is not an option, we can turn to Li-FT Removal. Li-FT is a saline based solution that can be used to lift the ink pigment up and out of the skin by osmosis. This non-laser tattoo removal is performed by our trained and licensed medical aesthetician. Multiple sessions will still be required for full removal, but anywhere between 20-60% dissipation can be expected in an individual session.
